conclusion
I feel that the space race was a turning point in history because it showed the American people that if they unite and work their hardest for a common goal, they can achieve any goal they set for themselves. Throughout the space race there were many people who said that sending a man to the moon within the decade was an impossible goal, and at the time it did seem impossible. However, when the Americans worked together and sacrificed we didn't only send one man to the moon, we sent four. Many people said that 7-9 billion dollars was a crazy amount to spend on space exploration at the time, which may be true, but when the Americans worked together and worked their hardest the unemployment rate still went down and an incredible amount of information was discovered. The soviets started with what may though was a substantial lead , but Americans worked hard to make up for lost time. Within two achievements we were back to being neck and neck with the Soviet Union and eventually surpassing them. So, the space race showed Americans can accomplish anything when they work together because of their ability to make such good use out of huge budgets, accomplish things other countries can only dream of, and come back from any deficit we're in.
